Xyro (best brawl samus) here, I just finished doing one match at BestBuy. I had it recorded. I'll post it and update this post when I get home.
edit:
Hey guys/girls, today I got a chance to play one match on the Smash 4 demo at BestBuy in Webster, tx. Before I begin, please keep some things in mind while reading what I have typed and watching the video I have posted.
A. We used the WiiU Pro controller. Its that XB360 looking controller.
B. One match set at 2min with items on. It was also a Free-4-All.
C. I watched others play the game for about 4 hours and I saw a total of 5 people use Samus.
Having said this^ please watch read what I have posted below and then watch the video.
(not in video) All of samus moves are the same looking as they were in brawl. B-air looks a little different but does the same thing.
(in video) You cannot missile cancel. I tried 2 times myself and watched one other player try. It cannot be done. This is a HUGE problem. Also, the animation for a grounded super missile is very long.
(in video) You can dash dance. Timing is very strict but it can be done.
(in video) U-tilt does 13% fresh. I KOed a Fox pretty early with this move so I can confirm that this move has been buffed in the knockback department.
(not in video) Jab 1, jab 2, f-tilt, f-smash and b-air are all much faster in smash 4 than in brawl. It is very noticeable. I thought I saw a jab 1 combo into f-tilt several times.
(not in video) D-smash sends the foe horizontal instead of vertical like in brawl.
(in video) Bombs are the same as brawl. They are still set to a timer.
(in video) Bomb jumping is still possible. It will never be as useful as it was in melee but it still helps with recovery/stalling.
(in video)Bombs do 10% damage.
(in video) Charge shot seems to charge the same as brawl or faster. Needs more testing.
(in video) Zair seems to be faster than brawl. It still auto tethers to ledge when recovering.
(in video) Up+B to ledge auto snap is still there but a little different. Samus must be farther down in order for the auto snap to work.
(in video) Quick ledge snap from standing on the stage is either gone or i just suck ****. My first death was because I did not quick snap to the ledge .
(not in video) Samus runs faster than in brawl. Her roll is faster but its still the same as brawl/melee/64
(not in video) Dash attack does 10% fresh.
(not in video) Fully charged shot still does 25%.
(in video) Non tipped Zair does 2%, tipped does 4%. Or maybe there are two types of non tipped zair. Watch the video.
(in video) Up throw does 10% fresh.
(in video) Back throw does 9% fresh.
(in video) Pivot grabbing is still in.
Overall, I guess the question you are wondering is probably something like “is samus better or worse than she was in brawl?” On one hand I say YES she is better. Every character in Smash 4 is faster but samus has moves (I named a few above) that are even FASTER than that and that is very very good. She also seems to KO faster because her moves appear to do more knock back, which is her number one issue in Brawl. On the other hand I say NO she is not as good because she cannot missile cancel. Due to no missile cancelling, missiles can only be shot in the air out of a full hop so that you do not land with a terrible ending animation from the missile leaving the cannon. If you have seen my Brawl videos or any top level samus player videos, missiles are PIVITAL for samus in brawl (they provide spam which slows the enemy down/reduces their options, they gimp, they allow for grabs and other frame traps…etc). Since this this game is closer to brawl than any other smash game, I feel samus has just lost lots of status due to no missile cancelling. Im not writing her off just yet though because it is JUST a demo of smash 4. I played the melee and brawl demo and both times the final game was different from the demos. I think the same for the smash 4 demo……I HOPE the same goes for the smash 4 demo.
